700th Blog Post!!! Has it REALLY been that long!?

Well!! Who would have thought it...

...way back there in September 2008...

...that I'd STILL be blogging now...

...and am posting my 700th offering!! :-)

It's been quite a journey...

...and I've met so many lovely people along the way.

Thank you all for being around...

...it's been an absolute pleasure having you in my creative life!

X     (x 700)

Back to business.....

This is the second sample that I'm working on at the minute...

...a lovely big "flower"...

...stenciled and stitched...

...and some "grasses" penciled in ready to go to the machine later.

Plodding on...

...plodding on...

:-)

...a bit further on...

I was at the machine until nearly 9 pm yesterday...

...and went to bed with a pain in the neck!

STUPID!!

But...

...the crane was finished so that I could do the Sashiko design this morning.

I used a "net" pattern for this piece.

I thought it was looking a bit "samey"...

...so got out some red thread.

A little bit of red never hurt anything did it!!?? :-)

It's not finished yet...

...a litle bitty more with the red...

...then the hexagons...

This Empress Mills Klona Cotton is just wonderful for this stitching!

Happy Tuesday.

New Japanese-themed workshop samples for 2018

Yes. I know it's still 2017...

...and Christmas isn't here yet...

...but 2018 is just around the corner...

...and I need to get a move-on with some samples for my new Japanese-themed workshops!

These pieces will be composite...

...using stencils with Markal Paintstiks...

...some Sashiko stitching...

...and some Hexagon patchwork in delicious indigo fabrics!

I might even use some glittery bits....

....it's all getting "interesting" at the minute...

(and I needed a break from stitching on beads!!!!)

Sayonara...

Semamori stitching...

A little while ago I came across this posting on the Sri Threads blog...

....about a little book of stitched amulets....

...called SEMAMORI....

...usually found just under the collar on the back of kimono/jackets...

...for the protection of the wearer.

I immediately became very interested and began to search around for more information.

I found a few references and photos...

...but, not being a Japanese reader, I couldn't get an awful lot.

Then I came across an advert for a little book (in Japanese of course)...

...that had loads and loads of diagrams!! Yey!!

Luckily, I have a lovely friend...

...who has a lovely son who is married to a lovely Japanese lady...

...and they live in Japan...

...where they have access to Amazon.jp...

...and the Japanese postal system!

Within a week, said little book was on my desk...

...and I was able to get on and DO. :-)

First of all I did a small "sample" book along the lines of the one in the Sri Threads posting...

...bound with a piece of my "leather paper" and lovely red thread...

A different amulet on each page...

Then...

...I made a start another one of my tri-fold creations...

An amulet stitched onto another piece of specially dyed "leather paper" with sashiko patterns down either side....

(The cloth used to strengthen the folds of the book are strips of old kimono fabric. Isn't ebay wonderful!!)

Here's the little "insert" book to be stitched in...

(Same prepared "leather paper" cover)

...and different amulets on each page...

I still have a little way to go with this one...

...but I'd like to share an absolute joy with you...

I had a good session on ebay looking for Japanese fabrics and clothing...

...and sent for a number of Haori jackets.

The first one came and was beautiful...

...but the second one...

...a plain black one...

...had THIS stitched on the back!!

was I delighted or what!!? :-)))

Quilting progress......and some new toys!

Well...

...I've hardly managed to get anything done for the last week!

Damned bug dared to enter the Holy-of-Holies...

...crawl into my system...

...and render me totally useless!!

Bad enough to put me to bed even....

...and I can tell you truthfully....

...THAT doesn't happen very often!

Bloody critter!! Grrrrrrrr!

Still sniffing and stuffed-up, but at least no awful headaches,  joint pains and head-fug.

But...

...I have now done some metallic stitching on one of my Journal Quilt pieces.

The photo doesn't really do justice to the finish or the colour....

...but believe me it's lookin' good! :-)

NOTE:- For all of you machine stitchers out there who have had problems with metallic threads snapping...fouling-up...shredding etc then PLEASE get your metallics from Empress Mills! It is such a treat to be able to sit at the machine for hours and not have to keep constantly re-threading. You'll find the metallic page here. :-)

I have a few ideas in mind for the rest of the piece, but I think I'll need a couple more days to recover properly before attempting anything too intricate.

Eyes are still very dry and picky and the brain is functioning on only about 80%

I said in the last post that I would be using some of the pieces for a different project...

...one of my tri-folds...

...and I've decided to make use of some delightfully easy-to-use Clover Yo-Yo makers and some gorgeous Japanese fabrics to do a cover on one of them.

I think I can (just about) get my head around that today...

...so will show on my next posting.

Meanwhile...

...I've been nominated to take part in the ARTCHAIN thingy that's going all around Facebook right now.

Not been able to do anything about it for a few days as The Man has turned us over to Fibre-Optic Broadband and the internet has been a bit erratic. Also my Lappy that holds all my photos was having some senior moments, so I couldn't get to my piccies!

I'll have a good search through and attend to that posting....

...probably tomorrow...

...but I won't be nominating anyone as most of those that I would have selected have already been nabbed by someone else!

I like the idea though...

...really good to see lots of pieces of beautiful artwork from so many talented folk :-)

OK...

..I have to go blow my nose again...

...and apply some Aloe-Vera gel as it's getting sore!

Sorry!

...too much info?

Looking.....and smelling good!!

The workroom smells wonderful today....

...wax (or oil) from the Markal Paintstik stencils...

...that are drying on the radiator!!

I'll enjoy the aroma until tomorrow...

...when I can iron them and then proceed with stitching :-)

And what am I doing I hear you ask...

...well...

....I have a bit of a "Japanese theme" going on...

Here's a bit of a flavour (in a purely pictorial sense of course!!)

Something tea related to go on the wall near my lovely Japanese tea set...

...some waves...

...one of a number of crests....

...and here's one I did earlier (cor...just like Blue Peter eh?)

...complete with metallic stitching!!

Some are for a tri-fold book that I've been working on for a little while now...

...and others are for the Contemporary Quilt Group Journal Quilt Challenge 2015...

...for which I have signed up.

Yes....I KNOW....haven't I got ENOUGH on my plate for this year already??!!!

Boff!
