Long time.....no bloggy!!

Really sorry for the long absence.....

...but we flitted away to Frogland in order to visit a town called GRAY.....

...a delightful little town on the Saone in Franch Compte :-)

Well....

...it would have been rude not to wouldn't it?

we had some lovely days visiting Dijon, Besancon, Dole......

...and a beautiful little village called Pesmes.

(We always manage to find at least ONE little gem on our travels!!)

we got back to the UK just in time to drive straight to Birmingham for Festival of quilts...

...where I had a wonderful time...

...and met LOTS of wonderful people again!!

Workshop was brilliant...

...and I spent a glorious four days playing on Colourcraft's stand :-)

An added bonus too.....

....I have my "Chemanthy" panel in the current issue of "Stitch" magazine!

WeyHey!!

Now...

....head down....

...write...

...write...

...write......

Two project articles and a "Sketch to Stitch" to be done by Sept 1st  :-o

South Sea Journey with "Soft Form Relief Paste"

...is what I'vve called these little panels...

They feature the wooden print blocks that are on my Festival of Quilts workshop panel "Oceanic Journey"...

...plus some new "jollop" stuff from Colourcraft that is officially called "Soft Form Relief Paste".

(Colourcraft will be launching this new range on their stand at FOQ, and if you want any before that, just email them.)

This was a joy to work with, but you MUST have patience!....it takes a long time to dry!!

You can apply it to any textured surface......rubber stamps, rubbing plates, ceramic tiles, corrugated plastic, or whatever you have to hand...

I used a palette knife to liberally spread the paste over my surfaces and, because I had stitching in mind, laid some fine cotton muslin on the back then left it to dry for a couple of days. (I did say you need patience!!)

When dry, you can gently peel it away from the surface .....

...just look at the definition you get!!...

....spray it with Brusho sprays....

...highlight it with acrylics....

....and cut it to whatever shape you need.

Because of the fabric backing, these medallion-type pieces can now be stitched onto a heavier fabric for dangles or just as part of a design.

The only limit is your imagination !!!  :-)

Have fun...

...as I have been having some dyepot fun again.

Fresh off the line...

...after ironing...

..and this is may favourite-est piece of all :-)))

All being done for my summer workshops in France and Belgium.....

I've begun packing all the bits and bobs for the "Oceanic Journey" workshops at Festival of Quilts....

Time to check in again...

Had a wonderful time at Festival of Quilts.....

Met lots of lovely people....

...and ran around like a headless chicken!

Here's a piccy of my little stand...

...and a close up of my little street of stuffed houses. :-)

These attracted quite a bit of attention, and the basket of patterns was well depleted by the end of the show.

Let's hope they are as well received in Alsace!

It was lovely to meet up with blog friends again too.

Anne, who called around on Thursday morning...

and Viviane and Liliane who were my lunch companions on Sunday (although we saw each other every day for a little chat).

I'll be meeting up with Viviane again in Alsace, and lunch will be on the cards again I'm sure! :-)

Have a look at her blog here.....

...she's doing a little series of posts on the Festival of Quilts (that is MUCH better than my effort!)

It was great to spend some time with Jamie Malden of Coloricious too.

We're working on some workshops down there in Amersham next May...

...involving lots of printing with her lovely print blocks...

...and then loads of stitching fun afterwards!

We'll keep you posted on that as time goes on.

The FOQ workshops were great fun, if a tad manic....

...and it didn't really help when, on the first one, I had been expecting 12 people to turn up, and 16 actually arrived!!

The organisers had sold 16 tickets by mistake, and couldn't tell me if I would have 12 or 16 on the following two days either!

Faces were pulled, and I was sheepishly asked "Can you cope?"

What's the answer girls?

"I'm a WOMAN! Of COURSE I can COPE!!"

It was decided that when the person responsible was tracked down...

...their garments would be removed...

...any openings would be stitched shut....

...then, they would be put in a very public place and ordered to dress again!

(One of the stewards immediately applied for the job of ticket seller. He thought he could make quite a bit of money on that one!)

As it turned out, there were 12 on Saturday and Sunday, so enough goody-packs were there in the end.

What a runaround though!

My stand was, of course, "miles" away from the Q&E workshop areas, and there were no water/wash-up facilities available....

So....

..I had to wheel a trolley through the crowds...

...get the tables and floor covered and equipment out in 10 minutes flat...

...get 16 or 12 people to print a fabric background into which to stitch....

....clean the area and remove all the plastic coverings in about 5 minutes flat...

...wheel the trolley back to the stand...

...and then spend 40 minutes in the cleaners' cupboard having a free sauna over a hot tap (no cold tap working) scrubbing all my wooden blocks with a toothbrush and the foam ones with a tatty sponge!

Bloke remarked that I looked like I'd hit the bottle a bit too hard by the time I flopped back into my chair with a well-earned cup of tea afterwards. :-o

NO WAY will I do those Q&E 1 hour jobbies next year...

...and, as most of my students asked for more workshops AND longer ones at that....

...I'll be offering half days in 2013.

The show was very positive in other ways too...

.....but my "Stitched in Stone" work will certainly have to go on the back burner for quite a while!

Let's say that I'm going to be spending a lot of time writing and producing samples over the next 12 - 18 months....

...with a few deadlines to meet!!

I won't be around here for a while now....

...twazzling skeins like mad to stock up again for Ste Marie aux Mines...

...but I'll try to sneak in a tea posting on Tuesday :-)))

See you next week....

...it's nearly time to go....

I know there's not been much blog activity around here lately....

...but that hasn't been mirrored at home!

At this moment in time I'm surrounded by stacks of boxes...

...that will be packed in the wagon later....

...and then I'll be up the road to the NEC tomorrow for set-up day.

All the workshop bits are packed into a new IKEA trolley...

All the new hand-dyed threads are stuffed into their display containers....

All the pieces of calico have been tied with ribbon....

All the new packs of "Tribal Colour Pots" paint have been packed in their boxes...

All the new "Little Houses" have been stitched and stuffed....

...and their patterns packed in baskets.

These are now available in the shop  too.

If any of you are coming to FOQ....

...I'm on stand I 22 on the back row....

...pleeeeeeeeeeease come and say "Hello"!

See you there :-))

..a couple more bits of stitching...

Here are a couple more bits of my "Tribal Print & Stitch" samples....

...I'm going to try and find a bit of time to write a website page for workshops sometime over the next few days...

...but I have a load of other things going on too. (As ever!!)

Saturday, I'll be down at Busy Bees for their 2012-13 workshop launch....

...where I'll have the opportunity to meet loads of stitching folk. :-)

....and after that...

...I'm working on half a street of little houses for Festival of Quilts.

You may have noticed (or not :-o) ...

...that I've changed something in the right side bar here.

My new work "Stitched in Stone" will now have to be shown properly at Harrogate rather than FOQ....

This heart problem has caused all sorts of problems and I've gotten really behind with things. I've calculated that I've lost a good 6 weeks of working time over the last few months. I've had to call off choir until October too ....

...just struggling to cope with it all.  :-(

Hopefully another appointment with the consultant will help.

Only 2 weeks away....

....then....

...two weeks later....

....all the fun begins to happen! :-)

Back home and playing catch-up again!

I've had a little break visiting Pops down in Cornwall....

....and meeting up with lovely blog friend Carolyn in St. Ives.

The weather (actually) wasn't too bad...

...and we managed to get around and see a few places before heading home again.

The only photos I took this time were at Mullion Cove...

...but seeing as I got LOADS on the last visit...

...I'm not about to fret too much! :-)

The next few weeks are going to be VERY BUSY INDEED....

...and I'll try my best to keep up with blogging, but please forgive me if posts are a bit spread out.

I was going to put more info up on the sidebar about the workshops at FOQ, but, after checking yesterday, they are almost SOLD OUT!!! Only 3 places left for Sunday with Friday & Saturday all gone.

Even the ones at Harrogate are beginning to fill..

...and that's AGES away yet.

I'm off upstairs now...

...lots of things to do.....

"Tribal Print & Stitch" .....part 1...

As you know, I'm doing three "Quick & Easy" workshops at the Festival of Quilts this year.

They're called "Tribal Print & Stitch" and will be 1 hour long. (Times are in the right hand side bar.)

To state the obvious....

...we will be printing some "tribal" designs onto cloth and then begin to stitch it afterwards. (I say "begin" because there's not an awful lot of stitching going to happen in the time left after the printing has been done!)

I'm going to be using foam blocks that I've cut myself, alongside these beautiful wooden ones from Colouricious ...

...and, today, I've been having fun with some gorgeous colours and some sponges!

These have been married-up with some thin batting...

..and will be machine stitched first....

...then hand stitched and beaded afterwards.

AND

..(apparently) it's going to be warm and sunny for the next couple of days, so maybe I can stitch on the terrasse :-)

Colours!...glorious colours....

FOQ is fast approaching...

...and it's time to get those thread boxes stocked.

These beauties are now awaiting transformation into 30m skeins.

Of course...I get to snaffle a little bit of each colour.....

...for "sampling purposes" :-)
