I'm doing a workshop with Cardiff Quilters on Saturday 18th April...
...entitled "Old Amsterdam".
It involves applique and machine and hand stitching.
Pieces can be made up into whatever folk like!
Sample #1
I might do some log cabin around this one....
Happy days!!

...it's nearly time to go....
I know there's not been much blog activity around here lately....
...but that hasn't been mirrored at home!
At this moment in time I'm surrounded by stacks of boxes...
...that will be packed in the wagon later....
...and then I'll be up the road to the NEC tomorrow for set-up day.
All the workshop bits are packed into a new IKEA trolley...
All the new hand-dyed threads are stuffed into their display containers....
All the pieces of calico have been tied with ribbon....
All the new packs of "Tribal Colour Pots" paint have been packed in their boxes...
All the new "Little Houses" have been stitched and stuffed....
...and their patterns packed in baskets.
These are now available in the shop too.
If any of you are coming to FOQ....
...I'm on stand I 22 on the back row....
...pleeeeeeeeeeease come and say "Hello"!
See you there :-))

...stitching & printing...
I'm still plodding on with my streets-worth of little houses that I want on the stand at FOQ.
These will be for display (mostly) and I'm working on pattern packs for them.
There are still quite a few more to do...
...and the various pattern pieces are building up on my desk.
The plan is for a good couple of weeks working on them...
...and continuing with the larger Mayan pieces meantime.
Here is the latest stitching....
...based on a house in Bergheim (Alsace).
The next one will be a "Winstub", inspired by one I saw in Riquewihr.
I'm so excited to be going back there this year!
We'll be based in Selestat this time, because it's a fairly short drive up the mountain to Sainte Marie-aux-Mines, and we can also visit the northern part of the region that we didn't get around to in 2009.
I've also been experimenting with some printing...
Not block printing as is my normal activity....
...but screen printing.
I have been toying with the idea of doing printed backgrounds for stitch for quite some time now, but needed to try the technique to see how I got on with it.
These are a couple of "Thermofax" screens...
...easy-peasy!!
Yey! That means the plan can be put into action :-)
They do custom screens, so all I need to do is a pile of line drawings...
(on top of everything else that is!!)
I'll be using these two for some French-themed fabric collages...
...they should look good printed onto some lavender-coloured cotton....
...and will marry nicely with those gorgeous sari ribbon strips.
I'm off!
Lots to do today...
...and at least the medication is giving me a new lease of life to get on with things :-)

Renovation - une nouvelle toiture pour "Le Bignon de Pulan"
Voila!!
Renovation complete....
..and (in my opinion) looking MUCH better than before :-)

It's amazing what a difference a little bit of time and effort can make....
...half an hour on the sewing machine provided a pretty new roof...
...and "Le Bignon de Pulan" is fit for habitation!
I've decided to give all my little houses some genuine French names, seeing as they are mostly based on French houses anyway......
...and I've even made a little "Deed of Ownership" to go with each of them! :-)

..Demolition!
I just wasn't happy with it...
...that little house shown here...
It was the roof.
It bugged me.
I had it perched on top of the books on my desk, and yesterday, decided it had to GO!
So I got hold of the stitch ripper....
...and demolished it!

a little house finished...
Here's the first one (of the latest that is!)...
...based on a little Breton cottage...
...with it's lace curtains (antique French lace found on the market in Mirepoix last year) and blue door.

...a close-up shows the hand-stitching a bit better....

....not sure about the roof though...

Tea & Leaf Tuesday ....
It's winter outside...
...and properly this time....
...white fluffy stuff and icicles! :-)
It looks so pretty...
...and so does this teeny tiny little Brambly Hedge Winter set...

..containing a very small amount of my M&S Spiced Winter tea (again!) (I LOVE IT!!!)
And for the leaf...
...I've been drawing again...
...another little house that will soon be stitched.

(..and I couldn't resist including a couple of Carolyn's crystal snowflakes in the piccies...they fit so well with outside right now :-)

Tea & Leaf Tuesday ....
Here we are again...
I can't believe it's been a whole week since the Brambly Hedge "Winter" cup was used for that lovely M&S "Winter Spiced" tea!
It's been a really hectic week, taken up with hospital visiting...
...finishing off textile pieces for another couple of magazine articles...
...AND sorting out a veritable MOUND of music for choir tonight.
Of course, that's exactly when the printer decides to play up isn't it?!!!
Never mind....it's all done...(apart from the writing of the articles :-o )...
...and I can now sit down with an orient flavoured Japanese Sencha....
...in one of the beautiful little tea-tasting bowls given to me by my Bloke for Christmas :-)
It doesn't look much when dry, but after steeping you can see all the full leaves and flower heads in it.
It is delicate and delicious.
On my leaf this time....
....I have placed a little sketch.
I have another little book on the go...
...getting filled-up with "little houses" that will (eventually) get turned into stitched and/or stuffed pieces.
This was done from a photo I took whilst living in Brittany....
...where they have such beautiful little houses....
(a lot of which have been captured and are sitting on my hard-drive or cd's!)
..if I can get my writing out of the way soon....I can begin stitching this one by the weekend....
...I'll enjoy that...
