Old Amsterdam workshop sample #1

I'm doing a workshop with Cardiff Quilters on Saturday 18th April...

...entitled "Old Amsterdam".

It involves applique and machine and hand stitching.

Pieces can be made up into whatever folk like!

Sample #1

I might do some log cabin around this one....

Happy days!!

Plenty of stitching going on around here...

Sorry.

It's been a wee while since I last did a blog post...

...but I simply HAD to tidy up my workroom!

I have soooooo much to get done over the coming winter months...

...preparations for the Salon Pour L'Amour du Fil in Nantes...

...where I will be having an Atelier stand...

...and doing two-hour workshops on each day.

I've been working on some small projects...

...one of which is this little needle-book...

...which Cardiff Quilters will be testing out for me tomorrow! :-)

They have kindly agreed to be my "guinea-pigs" (or as I call them "Pinny-Gigs")...

...and try out my future kits to make sure that I've got it right.

They'll be timed tomorrow...two-hours to see how far they get!

This one is completely finished...

...while this one is a sample with different colours...

(I'll probably make this one into a brooch or scarf ring)

Now that my workspace is tidy....

...with ONE new table to replace the previous two...

...and 14 bags of "stuff" have been deposited with Re-Create in Cardiff.

I can now see the floor AND have room to work without piles of stuff falling over all the time!!

There is a lot to be said for this "de-cluttering" larky......

Cardiff Quilters Exhibition. - going into production...

I'm struggling to find things to show on here right now...

...as most of what is going on in the background is to do with a couple of books that will be published either at the end of 2017 or into 2018.

However....

...my quilting group Cardiff Quilters is celebrating it's 25th birthday this year...

...and we are holding an exhibition at Ararat Baptist Church on the 29th July.

Here's the Quilters' Guild notice if anyone is interested.

There's going to be a Tombola, Raffle and a Sales Table along with some traders.....

...so I'm in production with some handmade notebooks/sketchbooks for the event.

Each one will have a machine-stitched Sashiko square on the front cover...

...which will be made of some of my special "leather paper" dyed specially in a shade of pale blue.

I'll make the pages out of fairly heavy paper so that they'll stand up to collage etc.

I'm hoping to get quite a few done...

...plus a few other bits and pieces too.

Once these are all finished I'll get onto some Tombola gifts...

Try to call by if you can...

...it'll be a great day. :-)

Sashiko stitching in Cardiff

Saturday was a day of Sashiko Stitching with Cardiff Quilters...

...and what a lovely day it was too!

Lots of gorgeous bits of white-on-blue stitching...

...using Empress Mills' Klona Cotton and machine Sashiko Thread...

...mostly machine, but some by hand...

Lots of patterns drawn out...

...samples done...

...and tea drunk.

I made up some Genmaicha tea bags for everyone so that they could drink Japanese tea while doing Japanese stitching!

It was a lovely day!

Thanks ladies.

Teeny Tiny coins...

...have been stitched into the corners of each of the completed Hmong panels.

I got them as charms, so they came with little hanging loops...

...that I really didn't like, so I cut them off and sanded down the raw metal bits that were left!

I've sprayed the book and box papers with Brusho Sprays...

Now all I have to do is decorate around the pages...

...and make up the box :-)

(It'll have to wait a few days as I'm preparing for my Sashiko Workshop with Cardiff Quilters on Saturday!)

...a little bit of red she said...

...never spoils anything!

Neither do some teeny tiny mother-of-pearl buttons.

My Sashiko samples are all done...

...for now at least...

...and all ready for the Cardiff Quilters AGM on Saturday.

See you there girls! :-)

A few more Sashiko samples done for my Cardiff Quilters workshop...

On a roll! :-)

Printing and stitching.

I took some of my print blocks and paints down to my quilt group meeting last Saturday...

...and we all had a few hours of "kindergarten" fun!

I had a plan in mind...

...as I'm doing a printed and stitched book workshop with Lingen Stitchers in May...

...and need to get a nice sample done before I go.

So...

I printed a number of panels...

...including this here little heffelump.

The next stage was some machine stitching....

...then the whole piece was sprayed with metallic Brusho Sprays before painting in some areas with Inktense sticks.

I will begin the hand embellishment this evening as I enjoy the Treasures of Ancient Greece on BBC4 .

Have a good evening....

Ready, Steady.......STITCH!!

I had the most wonderful day in the capital....

....with the lovely group of ladies - Cardiff Quilters!

They had chosen one of my little French houses as their workshop project....

...and, as you will have seen in previous posts...

...I designed a Creperie for them to stitch.

When I arrived (having driven through the most torrential downpours)...

...all were eagerly awaiting their bits and bobs....

....sewing machines at the ready.

So.....

...no hanging around.....

....ready....

...steady.....

....STITCH!

It's amazing what happens around "stitching persons".....

....because, a number of ladies in this group know more ladies from another group.....

...one of which will be keeping me company on Friday (for one of our much-loved "play-days"!)

AND.......it was decided that we would like to make things a big more permanent.....

...and form a new stitching group!

YEY!! Really looking forward to welcoming you to my home....

...and my workroom! :-)

Thanks for a lovely day......
