Taliesin book #1

 This one has been a bit of a journey...

...but a very enjoyable one!

Number 1 in a series of tiny books...

...for the Near & Far group expo ...

...that is (supposed) to be happening at the NEC in March 2021.

Based on text from the Book of Taliesin...

...I printed some of the Battle of the Trees...

...and used leaf printed fabrics with some stitching,

Collage & Stitch panel #1

I've been beavering away on some more small medieval tile print panels...

...intending to do "something" with them.

They became more and more intricate...

...and grew a few more layers in the making too.

Here's #1 finished and mounted onto a collaged background...

...on an 20cm x 20cm canvas...

Canvas panel is covered with crumpled tissue that has then been sprayed...

...stenciled.....

....had more embellished tissue applied...

.....and finally given a polish!

I'm very pleased with the outcome and have another three to finish for Exeter...

...where they will be up on my stand...

...and for sale.

Hobbling around and doing a bit....

It's sore!

...and I'm hobbling around like I-don't-know-what...

...but, after a couple of days of feeling really groggy...

...I've managed to get my head into some sort of gear and get some bits done.

I've been offered gallery space at this year's West Country Quilt & Textile Show...

...so I'll be doing workshops too.

Here are a couple of my samples.....

...this can be either a needlecase or a notebook.

A medieval tile design printed onto hand-dyed cotton...

...stitched and beaded.

Postie brought me an Ebay win this morning...

...a delightful old book on butterflies that has the most beautiful colour plates!

These will be just the thing for some collage pieces...

...after they've been scanned, printed and cut out. :-)

And...

....in addition to all of this...

...my reading material for the next few days before our picnic visit to St. Mary's Church, Kempley, Glos.

New design book for latest stuff!!

I'm working into my long, narrow KHADI book with drawings intended for (eventual) lino prints...

...but wanted a smaller, less formal one for scribbles, collage, ideas etc.

So, I got an 8" x 5" book from the Art Shop in Abergavenny...

...and collaged some medieval-looking bits on the front cover.

I may add something else on that brown mica-paper...

....but haven't come across "just the right thing" as yet!

It WILL turn up!! :-)

Philippine-inspired tags 1 & 2

I've had to think quite carefully about the items folk will actually be making during the two hours that they spend with me as the ship travels from one port to another.

I decided on a "tag book" from the start...

...as it IS a holiday and luggage labels seem like  suitable things to carry holiday memories.

I have to take most of the bits and pieces with me, but I'm hoping to pick up things like local newspapers, paper bags, wrappers, till receipts, postage stamps, low-value paper money etc on excursions.

These bits'n'bobs can then also be used to ground the memories as it were.

Obviously, luggage tags are only relatively small...

...therefore nothing TOO ambitious can be planned (and to be done in a couple of hours as well!)

So, I've gone for colour combos for the Philippines part of the trip...

...collaged, printed and stitched...

...using hand-dyed and prepared papers and batik fabrics.

Here are 1 and 2...

...blue skies, turquoise seas, shining sandy beaches...

The squiggly writing on the first one is a pre-Hispanic filipino script that I found on the net...

...I thought it would help to "place" things a bit...

I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later....

...working on my little French fabric collages....

...whilst thinking about the next Little French House to be done...

Here's my first one....

...using some of those gorgeous sari silks...

...hand-dyed and printed fabrics...

...lace, beads, silk ribbons and rayons....

...old handwriting dipped in batik wax...

..and French flea market pearl buttons...

...done on a background of antique linen.



I'm pleased with it  :-)


My 300th posting is coming up soon....

...and I'll have one of these little panels done specially to giveaway...
