Home and Happy!!

Well....

...it seems like I haven't been in my workroom for absolutely AGES!

But...

...we had a wonderful break away....

...and I thoroughly enjoyed my workshops and talk (even though my slideshow fell apart a bit!)

You've already seen photos of the workshop at Aberystwyth....

...so here are piccies from my lovely day with the Wirral Embroiderer's Guild.

They had opted for a printing day....

...and, boy, did they print!! :-)

They threw themselves into pots and pots of paint...

...getting wonderfully filthy....

...and produced some gorgeous colour combos.

 Sheets of delightful spears...

...and other bits and bobs....

Good job it was a fine day.....so that the foam blocks could dry outside after being washed.

Even the foam sheets from underneath turned into veritable works of art.

The last hour of the day was spent at sewing machines....

....but I have to wait for photos of finished pieces (as so much time was spent having fun with paint that there was very little time left for anything else!).

Thank you SO much for inviting me ladies...

...I loved every minute of your company!! :-)))))

ps....... I'm sorry if I haven't responded to emails or comments lately, but my wifi connection was a tad sporadic while I was away. I'll try to catch up now that I'm home for a while....

Printing to Stitch workshops at Festival of Quilts

I'm doing just one workshop at Festival of Quilts this year...

...Saturday evening from 5 til 8...

..."Printing to Stitch" C278

Here are a few panel samples I did some time back...

...and these are some of the spears that were featured in "STITCH" magazine...

I'm cutting some mask pieces while the sun shines....

...and have already done a pile of small panel blocks for participants to take home with them.

They are of a size that could easily be used for bunting!

I'll be bringing my own blocks for people to use....

...along with a large selection of Colouricious wooden blocks for decoration and loads of Colourcraft (and other) paints.

As each person will get a metre of Empress Mills calico fabric in their packs....

....they'll have plenty of stitching to keep them happy for the rest of the year!!

Pack contents:- 1 m  calico fabric; 1 hand-cut foam print block; hand-dyed embroidery threads.

Those who book, PLEASE BRING YOUR CAMERAS as there will be plenty of samples to take pictures of!

See you there...

...Earth Spirit....first page...

Here's the first page in my "Earth Spirit" sketchbook.....

......five painted ladies......

....all done with Brusho paints.

....and I've started a little bit of stitching too.

I think I may make some print blocks of these .....if it doesn't rain too much today.

(I like making print blocks!)

Back to choir tonight.......

....it's been a while......

...stupas, sticking and stamping....

A bit of watercolour painting....

...collage....

...and block printing...

...make up this page in my "cruise" sketchbook/scrapbook.

I don't consider myself to be a watercolourist really....

...but I'm pleased with this little effort.

Dreamy stupas in a misty landscape....

...helped along with some gorgeous fabric...

...and gold paint.

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon's work! :-)

Enjoy your weekend.....

...I know I shall...

...from blues to greens - Borneo begins...

All my Philippines pages are done and stuck into my sample/scrapbook...

...so I spent a couple of hours in the workroom filing away the blues...

...and digging out greens.

I have every intention of doing more when I get there....

...using bits and pieces that I find...

...but for now...

...these are the products of my imaginings :-)

Stamped seed pods, printed leaves and flowers, lovely batik fabrics and a bit of writing....

....with stitch to finish (of course).

I also used the seedpod rubber stamps to make some polymer clay pieces for some page-spreads...

Have a great weekend...

...more spells...

Isn't it just amazing how...

...when you're doing one thing...

...another, even better thing...

...flops into your mind?!!

I'd printed yesterday's spells onto dyed tissue (for a specific purpose)...

...but THEN had another idea...

...that resulted in this :-)

Of course...

...these idea thingys don't come by themselves do they?

No!

So here are the ones that sit on my desk this morning...

"Magic" bits...

...printed with a mixture of fabric and acrylic paints...

...that will be stitched later when they're dry.

Looks like it's going to be a great weekend!! :-))

Sunny spells and incantations....

"Make Art while the Sun Shines" is the motto around here today.

It's been warm and sunny all day....

...we've had breakfast and lunch on the terrasse...

I also took the opportunity to get out the soldering iron to do a few more print blocks that were then printed this afternoon.

....Magic...

.....spells and incantations.....

Have a good weekend.

..stitch on print..

...machine work done...

...and it didn't take as long as I thought it might - thanks to the "needle down" facility on my Pfaff :-)

...now for the hand stitching...

I think a bit of "zing" in the colours might be in order.

Tidying find...

The three days spent tidying my workroom over the confined-to-quarters-holiday not only gave me back a wonderful un-cluttered space to create in...

...but also turned up a few long-lost friends...

...one of which was this old Indian print block.

Isn't it a beauty?!

(Although I understand why folk buy these by the basketload to put in nice, elegant arrangements by the side of the picturesque fireplace, I DO wish they'd leave them alone for those of us that want to USE THEM!!  OK....grizzle over with......)

This block has been well used and had to be scrubbed with my special 35p plastic toothbrush from LIDL that is kept for this very purpose....

...but there are a few blank spots where the wood has begun to disintegrate.

No worries though...

...that's why we have a mug of varying sizes of little paintbrushes isn't it...

...to fill in any gaps. :-)

This piece has now been "Bondawebbed" to some black felt...

...the machine loaded with suitable thread...

...and my treddle-peddle foot is itching to get going!

It will, of course, have some hand-stitched crosses too... :-D

Have a happy Monday

..stitching in the snow....

Winter has well and truly arrived...

...and it's going to arrive even MORE tonight and tomorrow....

...so weekend travel plans have been shelved again!

It looks like we'll be stuck in for a few days this time...

...one of the hazards of living 1300 feet up! :-o

Ne'er mind...

...got plenty to do...:-)

Here are a few of piccies of some stitching already done on the dyed fabrics of last week.

...one of those birdies....

He still needs a bit of grooming before he's finished....

...but it won't be long now...

I've had a few folk ask what cotton fabric I use. Well, it's a superb Egyptian cotton that I get from Empress Mills. A really smooth cloth with a tight weave - mercerised of course - takes dye like a dream...feels like silk in your hand!
They sell the white in bundles and natural by the metre....GO ON!!....you KNOW you want to :-)))
