Roy Ray....and new brooches.....

I promised Carolyn of "Love Stitching Red" that I would post some pictures of my Roy Ray "indulgence".....a piece entitled "Porthmeor Totem XXXVIII"

...so, here they are.....

The whole thing is about 2 feet long by 3 inches wide.

I've been looking at his work for quite a few years now, so I'm very happy to have a piece at last!

The textures are amazing!

I've been fairly busy since coming back from Cornwall (although probably haven't actually got enough done!).....

..and here are piccies of some of the brooches that I've been working on.

..not quite so "linear" as the first ones - I think I prefer the more "fluid" lines of these latest ones...

I've got a small basketful of finished backgrounds - just need to do the handstitching and beading on them.

Also got a larger basketful of cuffs awaiting the same treatment - 40 of them to be precise - a gallery wants them for Christmas.

So, I spent about three days cutting, embellishing (felting), machine stitching, and hand-stitching and embellishing the end pieces on.....

.....not over-keen on "production" - certainly not THIS part of it...

...I always enjoy the handstitching/beading and finishing of things though.

ps.....all goodies went in the post this morning - so Carolyn, Genie, Eva and Linda should be getting something through their letter-boxes over the next few days ;-)

Oh wow! I can certainly see why you fell in love with Roy Ray's Porthmeor Totem. I agree with you. It's a very interesting piece, beautiful natural colours and wonderful textures

Your brooches are amazingly gorgeous too. You have been busy. I like all them and agree that the fluidity of them is really nice. All that embellishment will keep you going ... we won't get a peep out of you!

Hope postie arrives tomorrow. I will let you know

Sending best wishes
Carolyn

Hi Chris, the totem is a gorgeous work of art, can see why you must have it...your own brooches are very rich and exciting! You have a deep instinctive response to colour and pattern! Have you been an Indian native in a previous life
I wonder? Asian or Red...when I look at your work I feel strongly other cultures. Looking forward to the post!!!

Glad you like Roy Ray! The penhaven Gallery still has a few pieces left - if you feel inclined ;-)

Thanks for the comments on the brooches! I DO like them, and am enjoying working on them - making each one slightly different to the rest.

And.... I DO wonder exactly WHAT or WHO I've been in a previous existence sometimes......

...but I am certain that I've been someone or something!

Asian, African and Australian Aboriginal art sings to my soul...so maybe I've been one of each before....

...but I won't be heading off for a past-life regression session!

Pandora's Box!

Hope your posties bring something nice....soon...

Not missing it.....
