Winter weather = Red stitching

I was reading Penny's blog post just now...

...about hibernating critters...

...and how us humans behave a bit differently at this time of year...

Well, I suppose I am inclined to stay a-bed for a little while longer in the mornings...

...but what I've noticed for quite some years now...

...is that as soon as I feel winter coming in...

...I want to stitch red!

I have two pieces on the go at the minute...

...the larger one is a chart by Black Phoebe Designs...

...called "World Tree".

I couldn't resist it! :-)

The smaller one is based on a piece of Slovakian embroidery...

...and also has stags on, but more stylized.

I don't know what exactly it is about this red cross-stitching thingy...

...but it makes me feel all comfy, cosy and contented.

Hope you can find something that makes you feel the same...

..red for protection...

You can't think of magic stitching...

...without thinking of the colour red.

It appears in SO many places...

...and will be doing in my new work too.

Yesterday I got out the beer-glasses again...

...and wound a couple of skeins.

One pure silk, the other a silk and linen mix.

The sunlight on the table this morning makes them look more pink than red...

...but they'll be just perfect for protection...

....finished chickens!

I've finished this little panel....

...now all I have to do is find somewhere local to get it framed nicely :-o

..headless chickens....

...just about sums up how I feel somedays!

After having teeth out yesterday, I've got a painkiller hangover and STILL my cheek is very sore. There's always a problem....because the roots on my teeth are hooked over and therefore take a lot of twisting and tugging to get out. :-(

All I can manage to do is a bit of work on this cross-stitch sample...

.....that's based on an old european design...
