...indulgences....

As always...

...whenever I get across to ARTIQUE...

...I indulge my passion for tribal textiles.

Not a huge blanket this time ...

...rather some delicious small pieces...

...little gems every one of them!

First up .... a couple of Banjara stitched bracelets.

...with lots of bobbly tassels on them....

This one is looking very much like a snake...

...with it's lozenge patterns in red, yellow, green and white.

A gorgeous little stitched amulet (only 4 inches across)...

...with lovely dangly corner thingys.

But the most beautiful is this Turkomen child's hat.

Just look at the stitching and embellishment on it!!

Cowries and King George V  coins ...

Exquisite stitching...

...with long dangles....

...and topped-off with a beaded diamond.

Take a look at the inside to get an idea of the density of stitching on this piece. :-o

(I'm STILL looking for a little bit of SOMETHING from Kohistan though....

......just have to keep my fingers crossed I guess!)

...more drools :-)

My last-but-one posting seems to have been rather well met!

...not surprising really...

...all those gorgeous textile goodies at Artique.

Well...

...I took a few more than I posted...

..so here they are.

These are from Gujarat and Kutch.

I'll be doing some writing around some of these pieces, probably in the new year....

...but for the next couple of days I'm working on my workshop pieces for Harrogate...

...all French in lavender and lace :-)

Have a happy and creative weekend.

...drool away!!! (Warning! lots of piccies!!)

It was half-term last week...

...so we took off with the caravan for a few days near Ludlow.

Unfortunately, no photos to show of my little trip to Colinette Yarns at Llanfair Careinion.....

....but plenty to show from the stitchers' "Awfully Big Adventure" to Artique in Tetbury on Sunday!

Enjoy the eye-candy :-D

A couple of childrens' helmets from Kohistan.

A woven tent band.

A whole pile of tassels edging a yurt band.

Embroidery from Gujarat.

A talismanic hat from Afghanistan.

A toran door hanging from Rajasthan

Uzbek symbolism in cross-stitch.

a beautiful table cloth (or whatever?)

A child's hat.

More embroidery ...this one from Kutch.

 .
A dress bodice

More tassels.

...and finally....more toran embroidery.

Happy days!

..some piccies of THAT purchase....

I hinted about this in last weeks post about Artique...

Of course, whenever I go there....

...it's never a short visit....

...and the plastic card is ALWAYS employed :-o

The only problem is WHAT to buy!

I do try to get things that can be used as inspiration pieces....

...that can be employed as samples to work up....

...or as pictures for publication.

This time I struck GOLD with an Afghan blanket...

...8ft x 6ft...

...and made up of over 100 pieces of hand embroidery that have been applied to a backing and stitched together with couched thread bundles.

Here are just a few fragments...

(high-quality photos to show close detail as well as possible)

What a BEAUTY!! :-)))

...Textile Heaven (Warning ...lots of piccies!!)

Sorry for being a bit of a blog-slug lately...

..but a bit of boring production is required and I don't want to make you go to sleep :-o

After a busy day at Busy Bees....

...we decided to have a mooching day on Sunday.

The sun was out....

...it was lovely and warm....

...so we went to Artique....

...as one does on such a day. :-)))

Enjoy!!

Uzbek yurt bands...

...camel girths...

Piles of rugs....

Uzbek embroidered hats...

Silver and embroidered anklets...

Talismanic protection on an afghan dress...

Ralli bag...

Kutchi embroidered dress...

Beautiful beads...

...and blessings...

...on every one of you.
